The answer is not necessarily a bigger pump but a booster system designed around actual demand and the number of outlets. When you need a booster system

A few clear signs indicate that a building needs a booster set, or that its existing one is not suitable.

  • Weak pressure on upper floors: Especially where the building relies on a roof tank alone that does not provide enough head.
  • Fluctuating pressure: A noticeable drop when more than one outlet runs at once — a sign the system does not cover simultaneous demand.
  • Frequent starting and stopping: The pump cycling every few seconds, which wears the motor, raises the bill and generates irritating noise.
  • Special requirements: Irrigation, washing or process systems that need constant pressure regardless of demand changes.

System types and what suits each case

A booster set is not one single thing. The choice depends on demand volume, how much it varies through the day, and how critical continuity of supply is.

  • Single pump with pressure vessel: Suits villas and limited demand, at lower cost and with simpler installation.
  • Multi-pump set: Two or more pumps alternating or running together on demand; suits compounds and multi-unit buildings and keeps supply running if one pump fails.
  • Variable frequency drive (VFD) set: Holds pressure constant by varying pump speed with demand instead of cycling on and off — quieter, longer-lived and cheaper to run.

Design and installation

We start by calculating expected simultaneous demand, the number of outlets, building height and available supply pressure, then define the required pressure and flow and select the set accordingly. Getting this right prevents the two most common problems: a set larger than needed that cycles constantly, or one too small to solve the problem at all.

Installation covers mounting on anti-vibration bases, flexible connectors that stop noise transmitting into the pipework, isolation valves so the set can be serviced without shutting the building down, a control panel with appropriate protections, and finally pressure setting and handover of the operating figures.

What drives the cost

Cost is set by the required pressure and flow, the number of pumps in the set, the control type (conventional or VFD), brand and country of origin, the condition of the existing pipework and what modification it needs, and the installation location and access.
