Golden Tips for Selecting the Best Well Drilling Contractor - 2026

A well is a long-term asset. Drilled properly it serves for decades; drilled badly it silts up, yields poor water, or collapses within a few seasons. Almost all of that comes down to who you hire. These are the checks that matter before you sign.
1. Ask for the project record, not the brochure
Any contractor can describe past work. Ask for specific wells: where, what depth, which year, what yield, and whether the client would speak to you. A contractor with a real record produces the list without hesitating.
2. Verify the licences
Well drilling in Saudi Arabia is regulated. Confirm the contractor holds a valid commercial registration and the drilling permits required by the relevant authority, and that the permit for your own site has been applied for before work starts.
3. Look at the rig, not the photographs
The rig determines what depths and ground conditions a contractor can actually handle. Ask which rig will be on your site, its capacity, and whether it is owned or hired for the job.
4. Insist on a site survey before the price
A quotation given without a geological look at the site is a guess. Soil layers, expected depth to water and the required casing diameter all change the price. A contractor who surveys first will quote closer to the final number.
5. Read what the quotation excludes
The gap between a cheap quotation and an expensive one is usually in what is left out. Check whether these are included:
Casing and screens, and what grade of material
Well development and cleaning after drilling
The pump, cable, control panel and installation
Water testing after commissioning
The cost per extra metre if the well goes deeper than estimated
6. Get the warranty in writing
Ask what is guaranteed and for how long — the drilling work, the casing, the pump — and what voids it. A verbal assurance is worth nothing once a crew has left the site.
7. Ask who maintains it afterwards
A well needs scheduled maintenance. A contractor who also offers a maintenance contract has a reason to build it properly in the first place.
In short
Price is the last thing to compare, not the first. Check the record, the licences, the rig and the scope; then compare the numbers on equal terms.
